Etobicoke Mississauga Branch Newsletter - September 2001

Our Goal for Year 2002

Greetings! Welcome to the new ORMTA year. I hope that everyone is well rested, invigorated by an enjoyable summer, and ready to resume another ten months of teaching.

My summer was good - spent on a mixture of skill-upgrading workshops, leisure trips to the country, and plain relaxing at the backyard deck. What was notable throughout was the feeling of anticipation over my new role as president of our ORMTA branch. More than a few times I found myself reflecting on the many activities that need to be organized, and each time I rested with the thought that there are enough interested and dedicated individuals who I can rely upon to accomplish a good job.

I am privileged to work with the following dedicated people in the new executive board:

  • Charlotte Sherriff, past president and arts council
  • Daisy Suderwalla, secretary
  • Gloria Johnson, treasurer
  • Virginia Taylor, auditions and programs
  • Felien Torres, publicity
  • Sandra Pisani, citation book
  • Frances Macerollo, membership
  • Yasmin Moosa, telephone chair

There are a number of events and activities already lined up (see next section) for the coming months and more will be announced as they are firmed up.

Our goal for this year is to increase participation and attendance in all branch activities. To achieve this, we must maintain, or even improve, the quality with which we implement activities. As well, we will utilize better communications allowing for much more dialogue and exchange of views among members. Achieving this goal will mean that we at the Etobicoke-Mississauga branch shall have succeeded in fulfilling the mission that ORMTA has set for itself. The mission statement recently adopted by the national Council is:

  • To promote excellence in music education;
  • To promote a life long love of music in our students;
  • To provide fellowship and professional growth among members.

I look forward to your participation and involvement.

Lita Corazon Zagala, President
