Etobicoke Mississauga Branch Newsletter - January 2003News Bits from the President To my fellow ORMTA members, Here is a toast to all of us and our loved ones, that we may find 2003 in good health, happiness and blessedness, and that we may enjoy lasting peace in this world. Thanks to a diligent Executive Board and to supportive members, this year’s first four months beginning September are marked by solid accomplishments. Already, there were two workshops conducted, the first was by Aury Murray and the other by Marina Geringas. Four days were devoted to assessments and the Canada Music Week competitions. A masterclass with Gladys Odegarde was also held for intermediate and advanced students. We assisted once again in the "Christmas Marketplace" by having some of our members, spearheaded by Charlotte Sherriff, play at the Civic Center. And like a clock, the Executive met every Tuesday of each month. Those first four months were indeed packed with action. There is one noticeable difference in this year’s activities and that is, participation is much higher. There were a hundred and ten (110) piano and voice students who participated in the assessments and CMW competitions and there were 35 teachers in attendance in one of the workshops. Attendance to executive board meetings is near perfect. These indicate to me that our branch continues to work better and smarter to promote ORMTA objectives. We’ve taken giant steps to strengthen our scholarship fund. First, a committee was formed to organize solicitations. Janice Cherniak chairs this. Second, we got our first donor for the year in the person of Mrs. Maneck K. Sanjana who donated $1,000 (for voice scholarships) in memory of her late husband. This was made possible through the effort of Daisy Suderwalla. Felien Torres and Fran Macerollo did a great job once again in organizing the Christmas dinner at Alice Fazooli’s Restaurant. The food was good but the fun was even better. While we missed some members, there were a few new faces who joined us for the first time. And just for added fun, we raffled away some nice gifts. Almost everyone went home with something. In the coming months, we will see more activities which will be highlighted in May by the Scholarship Recitals. Please refer to the Calendar of Activities found in this newsletter. Looking forward to our New Year.
