Etobicoke Mississauga Branch Newsletter - December 2001

News Bits from the President

Greetings for the Holidays! Christmas is a season of joy that everyone looks forward to with much anticipation. I would like to be the first to wish all of you and your respective families a Christmas of joy and blessedness and a New Year marked with health, happiness and prosperity.

Barely four months into the ORMTA year, we have already completed a handful of activities. As scheduled, there were two auditions (one during Canada Music Week) and two workshops conducted. We participated in the Christmas Marketplace project of the Mississauga Arts Council. The Executive board held three meetings with near perfect attendance.

Our Christmas party, held last Sunday December 9 at the Alice Fazooli's restaurant, was well attended. Five past presidents and three Special Teacher Awardees graced the occasion while a number of new members were present for the first time. Sandra Pisani was presented an ORMTA pin for preparing our Citation Books over the years. The food was excellent, the cuisine really great, and judging from the jovial atmosphere that evening, it is unmistakable that everyone enjoyed a great party. Thank you everyone.

ORMTA is an organization of professionals with a rich history. In its own humble way, this organization has contributed its share of community development through music education. It is only proper that we are seen and recognized as such. Thus, the executive board has been adding little touches, little trimmings to our activities that make that professionalism a little more visible to the public. The format of our media releases is an example; and so are the new streamer and placards that we've used recently.

I look forward to the New Year.

Lita Zagala, President

Web and E-mail Update

Just 2 months ago we had only 30% of our branch members on the ORMTA website. As of today we have 57% participation. Felien Torres is still calling members to see if they would like their names, number and address on the web. If you know of any member who wants to join in, have them contact Felien 905-890-9662.

Our feedback is that there already have been a number of inquiries from interested parents as a result of our exposure in the web. Our branch is providing this service free of charge to our members this year, so everyone is invited to join in.

We have 30 members whose e-mail addresses are in our address book so we have been using e-mail technology as much as possible for our communications. There is no question that technology is enabling us to communicate and exchange ideas faster, easier and more effectively. If you have access to e-mail and have not yet informed us, we encourage you to do so by contacting Fran Mecerollo 905-625-0422 or myself 905-848-4488. Or you may simply send me an email message at litazagala@rogers.com or lita@zagalamusic.com.

If there is a ground swell of interest, we may even invite someone to give us an brief orientation on the use of web and email technology.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Lloyd Werner who will receive a Special Teachers Award during the 2002 ORMTA Provincial Convention in Timmins Ontario next July.
