Janet Fothergill is a graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Music (ARCT-Piano Performance and Pedagogy) and England's Trinity School of Music (LTCL).

Miss Fothergill is currently on faculty of the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) where she teaches piano, theory and musicianship. She is also a lecturer of Musicianship for the Glenn Gould Professional School of the RCM. Janet Fothergill is a member of the RCM Academic Council and has been a contributor to publications of the Frederick Harris Co. Limited.

Janet Fothergill is a senior member of the RCM Board of Examiners and is active as a workshop clinician and adjudicator throughout Canada and the United States.

One of Janet's primary interests is the Alliance for Canadian New Music Projects (ACNMP) whose major project is their national Contemporary Showcase Festival.
