Biography

Winner of the Virgina Waring International Piano Competition, formerly the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition, Sandra has performed as soloist and chamber musician throughout the world, including solo appearances with the International Chamber Ensemble in Rome and the National Repertory Orchestra, and recital series such as the Gina Bachauer International Piano Festival, Sundays at Two Recitals (Los Angeles), Palais de l’Athenee (Geneva), Oesterreichischer Rundfunk (Vienna), Kumho Hall (Seoul), and Palacio de Bellas Artes (Mexico City).

Sandra has served on the jury for the United States Open Music Competition, the National Guild Auditions of the Music Teachers’ National Association, and the Chinese American Parents and Teachers Association of Southern California Music Competition. She has collaborated with members of the San Francisco Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Opera, and Opera San Jose. She most recently worked with director Peter Sellars and conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen on the Los Angeles Philharmonic premiere of John Adams’ "El Nino" and was invited as the official pianist for the 1998 and 2000 Henryk Szeryng International Violin Competition.

Before moving to Toronto, Sandra taught piano privately and lectured in music theory and history at Stanford University. She now teaches piano and chamber music at the University of Toronto.
