Biography

Performing and teaching music is a matter of genetics and tradition in Liz Parker's family; any talk of quitting the piano was never casual dinner-time conversation. It meant a SUMMIT MEETING in the LIVING ROOM. After a few such encounters, Liz stuck it out to graduate from the Royal Conservatory of Music at 15, winning the Gold Medal for the top mark in Canada. She also holds her LTCL from England's Trinity College of London, and her Bachelor of Music from the University of British Columbia. A teacher since 1985, Liz loves working with youths and achieves top marks with her students in the RCM exams. Her approach combines a sense of fun and instilling discipline for maximum results. Don't even think about slouching or playing with flat fingers!

Liz has been known to jump off her chair and demonstrate a dance related to the music at hand, or bringing out her art books to help the student "visualize" the music of a certain era. Along with teaching, Liz  ran the Public Relations departments for the Vancouver and Toronto Symphonies, worked at CBC Radio Music in Toronto, and is now the Publicity Manager for the Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall.  She teaches in the Queen/Bathurst area, which means coffee and shopping options nearby for parents/siblings to while away the lesson time.
