Kathleen Anne GormanInstrument(s) Taught: PIANO, THEORY, COMPOSITION E-mail: kathleenwrites@rogers.com BiographyKathleen is a pianist /composer who has been teaching in Toronto for the past 12 years. Working as both a teacher and performer, Kathleen offers classes in piano and theory to students of all ages and levels, including adult beginners. Students have an option to study Classical piano or Jazz and Popular styles, to prepare for RCM exams, play in recitals or just for fun. The main emphasis is for all to enjoy developing their own musical talents and creativity, and to enhance their knowledge and appreciation of music. Students of Classical piano may take courses in theory, harmony or history. Jazz piano students will be given instruction in chord progressions, jazz harmony and melodic improvisation. Song writing is also offered as a course within the piano lessons to those interested students. Kathleen's formal training includes the ARCT Piano Performer's
Diploma, a Bachelor of Music from Concordia University, majoring
in Piano and Composition, as well as graduate studies at McGill
University in Composition with Brian Cherney, and Orchestration
with Bengt Hambraeus. Classical Piano studies with Yaron Ross, Jazz
Piano with Jan Jarczyk at Concordia; Performance Classes with Boyanna
Toyich and Antonin Kubalec at the RCM, and Jazz Piano studies with
Hilario Duran. Kathleen is teaching in downtown Toronto studio at King and Bathurst, and also works on
recording projects and piano performance. She has been an active
member of ORMTA for several years and enjoys organizing concerts
for teachers or students. |
