Biography

I'm new to the Toronto area - although I was raised and educated here. A recipient of the presitigious Floyd Chalmers Award, I have my Bachelor of Music Degree in Composition at the U of T and have taught music for 32 years (began in my early teens). My early instructors were the ‘grandparents’ of music education in Toronto: Boris Berlin, Margaret Parsons-Poole and Clifford Poole. It's been a wonderful experience teaching so many people over the years and building connections with them that go into their adult lives! My greatest goal was to bring the joy of music into my students' lives - and I'm reminded time and again that this was successful!

Now I've returned to Toronto to teach again - but in a totally new way. Since I'm a published composer, now writing music for film and television, I'm also offering students the chance to write their own music in my extensive electronic studio. If you are a student who shows an interest in writing your own music, I will gladly assist to cultivate that talent! I bring an extensive performance background and experience to my teaching practice, having performed in all styles ranging from stage, theatre, studio, commercial and non-commercial performance. I’m comfortable teaching in: classical, pop, jazz, rock, cocktail, ethnic etc. Theory lessons are also available as well as preparations for recitals, festivals, Royal Conservatory of Music exams (incidentally all my student scores are at 80% or more!).

Another focus of mine is to stimulate and excite the enthusiasm of my students in their music-making. I will tailor the lessons to harness that excitement and will present opportunities towards the discovery of all kinds of different music until that excitement becomes the students’ very own!
