Teaching Objective
To inspire students to develop a genuine love for music, to deepen their appreciation and enlarge their enjoyment of music, by developing their talents and helping them to achieve their musical objectives. In short, to enrich their lives through music!

Professional Advanced Training

  • Philosophy and Principles of Teaching under the tutelage of Harry Lyttler L.R.A.M. (Licentiate of Royal Academy of Music, London England).

  • Awarded Tata Scholarship by the Tata Education Foundation.

What I Teach

  • Private, individual lessons in Piano, Theory, Rudiments and Harmony for over 30 years. I also train vocalists and coach Church soloists.

  • I prepare students for examinations for RCM, Canadian Conservatory and other conservatories. My students perform for the community, especially senior citizens homes at the time of our annual recitals.

  • I also give lessons to new teachers in the art of teaching music.

Unique Teaching Methodology

  • I have developed a highly effective method of teaching, proven for over 30 years, in which a student of any age will learn within 3 to 5 weeks to read the entire spectrum of notes in the Treble and Bass Clefs, to identify these notes on the keyboard, learn to clap in simple time by identifying note values, and develop sound initial piano technique.

  • With my special teaching methods students advance rapidly in technical efficiency and are able to expand their repertoire beyond their own expectations.

  • Through melodic and harmonic analysis and brief synopses of the composer, my students acquire better appreciation and deeper enjoyment of the music they perform.

  • My approach is directed and dedicated to the individual needs of each student. Each student needs teaching tailored precisely to his or her learning skills, rate of progress, and ultimate objectives. Only the most intuitive, innovative teaching is able to achieve this level of teaching performance.

Personal History

  • Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association (ORMTA). I am an active member of this prestigious professional organization and have been the Executive Secretary for two years.

  • Four years of intensive higher education in liberal arts at St. Xavier’s College of the University of Bombay which was staffed by the renowned order of Jesuits an order of world-class international educators dedicated to a life of spiritual and academic education.

  • I have held positions in various schools as Music Teacher, Singing Teacher, Choir Conductor, Choir Accompanist and Director of Music. I have also been brought in as Music Consultant to prepare children for a musical play, responsible for the musical performance, designing costumes and choreography. I have performed on the All India Radio.

  • I have been a member of several chamber music ensembles. I provide music for church services, as well as for weddings, funerals and memorial services.

  • When in Bombay I was associated with the Industrial Magnates the House of Tatas, where I held various positions. Later, I worked for the United Nations, Government of Ontario, City of Toronto and have managed and operated my own Graphic Arts business.

This is Why I Teach Music
My purpose in teaching music is to develop the whole person academically, professionally and above all esthetically. The reason why I teach is best captured in a lovely poem:

NOT because I expect you to major in music
NOT because I expect you play or sing all your life
NOT so you can relax and have fun

BUT
so you will be human
so you will recognize beauty
so you will be sensitive
so you will be closer to an Infinite beyond this world
so you will have something to cling to
so you will have more love, more compassion,
more gentleness, more good... in short more life.

Of what value will it be to make a prosperous living unless you know how to live?
