Richard Payne immigrated to Victoria, B.C. as a classical guitar instructor from his native California in 1970.
He is a graduate of the University of British Columbia (M.Mus.-composition) and attended the Banff Centre School of Fine Arts where he had master classes with famed Cuban guitarist and composer Leo Brouwer. Richard teaches guitar, composition and theory in both classical and popular styles at his Yonge and Lawrence location.
Composition credits include commissions for the CBC, NFB, TVO, Tapestry New Opera, Victoria Symphony, Vancouver Chamber Choir and other ensembles and his work has been recorded and broadcast in North America, Europe and Asia.
